Terms of Use

Last updated 13 October 2026

These terms govern your use of the ChopChaw app and website. By creating an account or using ChopChaw you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use ChopChaw.

What ChopChaw is

ChopChaw is a marketplace. Partner food businesses list surplus food as discounted "Surprise Bags", and you reserve and pay for them in the app, then collect them from the business during the pickup window. ChopChaw does not prepare, store or hand over the food. The sale is between you and the business; ChopChaw provides the platform, takes payment and handles refunds and payouts.

Your account

  • You must be 18 or older, and give accurate information.
  • Keep your password and any pickup codes private. You're responsible for activity on your account.
  • One person, one account. Don't use someone else's account or impersonate anyone.
  • Partner business and field-agent accounts are created by invitation from ChopChaw and may only be used for that business or role.

Reserving and paying

  • Prices are in Ghana cedis (GH₵) and shown before you pay. Payment is taken through Paystack by mobile money or card.
  • A reservation is only confirmed once payment succeeds. An unpaid reservation holds the bag for a short time, then it is released to other buyers. You can't hold more than a small number of unpaid reservations at once.
  • Your pickup code or QR is shown once payment is confirmed. It is valid only for that reservation.

Collecting your bag

  • Collect during the pickup window shown on your reservation by showing your QR or code to the business.
  • If you don't collect within the window, the reservation is marked a no-show and no refund is issued.
  • Contents of a Surprise Bag vary and are chosen by the business — that's the surprise. Check the offer's description, and tell the business about any allergy or dietary need before you reserve. ChopChaw can't guarantee a bag is free of any allergen.
  • Surplus food is sold as it is, fit for eating at the time of collection. Follow the business's storage and eat-by guidance after pickup.

Cancellations and refunds

  • You can cancel a reservation from the Reservations tab before it is collected. If you hadn't paid, nothing is charged.
  • If you had paid, a cancellation fee may be kept to cover the business's preparation costs. The closer to the pickup time you cancel, the higher the fee; the rest is refunded. The fee never exceeds what you paid.
  • If the business can't provide your bag, contact us and we'll sort it out, including a refund where it's due.
  • If a payment arrives for a reservation that is no longer available, it is refunded in full.
  • Refunds are processed by ChopChaw and returned to your original payment method or mobile-money number; this can take several working days.
  • Problem with your bag? Contact us at support@chopchaw.app as soon as you can and we'll look into it.

Reviews

Reviews should be honest, based on your own experience and free of abuse, personal information and spam. We may remove reviews that break these rules.

Acceptable use

Don't:

  • use ChopChaw for anything unlawful or fraudulent, including using stolen payment details or abusing refunds;
  • reserve bags with no intention of collecting them, or repeatedly cancel late;
  • share, sell or copy pickup codes;
  • interfere with or attempt to break into the service, scrape it, or probe it for weaknesses;
  • harass business staff, other users or our team.

We may limit, suspend or close accounts that break these rules, and we'll tell you why where we can. You may stop using ChopChaw and delete your account at any time.

Partner businesses

  • You are responsible for the food you list: it must be safe, accurately described, and prepared and handled in line with Ghana's food-safety requirements and any licences you need.
  • You set the contents, quantity and pickup window of each offer, and must honour paid reservations.
  • ChopChaw keeps a commission on each sale and pays the rest to you at the payout details you provide, in line with the commission and payout terms agreed with you at onboarding. Payouts for an order are made after it is collected.
  • We may remove an offer or suspend a store that breaks these terms or puts buyers at risk.

Field agents

  • Agent submissions must be genuine, in-person visits with accurate details and a real storefront photo from the location.
  • Earnings follow the programme rules shown in the app. We may withhold or void earnings for false, duplicate or fraudulent submissions, and suspend the account.
  • Agents are independent contractors, not ChopChaw employees, unless a separate written agreement says otherwise.

Our service, and its limits

We work to keep ChopChaw available and accurate, but we can't promise it will always be uninterrupted or error-free, and offers depend on what partner businesses list. To the extent the law allows, ChopChaw is not liable for loss that isn't a foreseeable result of our breach, for the quality or safety of food prepared by a partner business, or for events outside our reasonable control. Our total liability to you for any claim relating to an order is limited to the amount you paid for that order. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, or your rights as a consumer in Ghana.

Intellectual property

The ChopChaw name, logo, app and website belong to us. You may use the app for its intended purpose but may not copy, modify or resell it. Content you post (such as reviews) remains yours, and you give us a non-exclusive licence to display it in ChopChaw.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using ChopChaw afterwards, you accept the updated terms.

Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of Ghana. Please contact us first atsupport@chopchaw.app so we can try to put things right; unresolved disputes are for the courts of Ghana.
